The formula, explained simply

The formula is (Value ÷ Total) × 100 = Percentage. You enter the part and the whole, and we do the division for you. For example, if you scored 85 out of 100 on a test, the calculator shows 85%. If an item costs $40 and you have a $10 coupon, that is 25% off. Simple, fast, accurate.

How do I calculate a percentage?
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. For instance, 50 out of 200 is (50 ÷ 200) × 100 = 25%.
What is a percentage point?
The difference between two percentages. Going from 10% to 15% is a 5 percentage point increase, not a 5% increase.
How do I calculate percentage increase?
((New − Original) ÷ Original) × 100. This tells you how much something grew relative to its starting point.
Can a percentage be over 100?
Yes. If you exceed the target, the percentage goes above 100. For example, $150K on a $100K target is 150%.
What is the difference between percentage and percentile?
Percentage is a ratio out of 100. Percentile is your rank compared to others — being in the 90th percentile means you scored higher than 90% of people.
